Petco hops into rabbit adoption
Petco has initiated a pilot initiative offering fewer than 50 rabbits for adoption at select stores, aligning with its "Think Adoption First" philosophy. The decision follows discussions with animal rights groups, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which praised the move. Benjamin Thiele-Long, who oversees communications for Petco, said: "We're helping find homes for the thousands of rabbits already looking for loving families across the country." The company aims to prevent impulse purchases that could lead to neglect or abandonment of these animals. To further encourage adoptions, Petco is offering a 20% discount for new rabbit owners who adopt through established rescue groups until the end of October.
